About this site

River Dart Country Park is an award winning campsite and holiday park set in 90 acres of parkland within Dartmoor National Park, near Ashburton in South Devon. The River Dart runs through the grounds, and the pitches sit among mature woodland and open parkland a few minutes walk from the park's own adventure attraction. Generous pitches, around 11 metres square, take tents, touring caravans, motorhomes and campervans, with grass, electric and hardstanding options, plus bed and breakfast rooms in the house for anyone not camping. The standout is what comes included: every camping booking gets free entry to the on site adventure playgrounds for the whole stay, with a pirate ship lake, assault courses, climbing pods and a toddlers' beach, which makes it a proper base for families with active children. Three modern amenity blocks, a cafe bar, a shop and wardens keep things running smoothly. Open fires are not allowed and wood burning is banned, though raised BBQs and braziers are fine, so this is not the site for a campfire night. Dogs are welcome on leads, with a maximum of two per pitch. The park celebrates 50 years in 2026, and pitches are booked through its online booking system.

Good to know

Are campfires allowed at River Dart Country Park?
No, open fires and the burning of wood are not permitted for safety reasons. Raised BBQs and braziers are allowed as long as they are kept off the ground, and smokeless fuel can be bought on site, so plan for a barbecue rather than a campfire.
Do campers get free entry to the adventure park?
Yes, every camping, touring and B&B booking includes free entry to the River Dart Country Park adventure playgrounds for the whole stay. Dare Devil activities and the Dartmoor Bike Park are available on selected dates at additional cost.
Is River Dart Country Park dog friendly?
Yes, well behaved dogs are welcome on the campsite and must be kept on a lead at all times, with a maximum of two dogs per pitch. Dogs are not permitted anywhere in the Holne Park House bed and breakfast accommodation.
What size are the pitches?
Pitches are approximately 11 metres by 11 metres, which is generous, though some vary. You can choose grass non electric, grass with electricity, hardstanding with electricity or a super pitch, and specific pitch or area requests can be emailed to the park.
Where is River Dart Country Park?
The park is near Ashburton on the southern edge of Dartmoor National Park in South Devon, with the River Dart running through its 90 acres. Ashburton is a couple of miles away, and the south Devon coast is within a short drive.
Is fishing available?
Yes, fishing is available through the camping season, with fly fishing only from the park's side of the river between the waterworks bridge and Holne bridge. A rod licence and a permit obtained from the park are both required before you fish.
