Shallow Grange Farm

Shallow Grange Farm is a quiet, family run and proudly eco friendly campsite on a working sheep farm at Chelmorton, near Buxton in the Derbyshire Peak District. It has earned a strong green reputation, named one of the Sunday Times 20 Best British Camp Sites in 2017 and one of the Guardian's 20 Best Green Campsites. You pitch on a flat, well drained field that takes both tents and tourers, with electric hook ups run on renewable energy (worth booking ahead) and two EV charging points powered by the farm's own solar. The eco theme runs right through to the modern shower block, where the hot water is solar heated, the lighting is low energy and the toilets flush on harvested rainwater, so you go green without giving up comfort. Views open out across the Derbyshire Dales, with good walks starting straight off the farm, and there is fishing on site for anglers. Campfires on the ground are not allowed, but you can hire a fire basket and buy farm sourced wood, and raised barbecues are fine. This is a deliberately calm site: dogs are welcome on leads, but large groups, stag and hen parties and late night noise are not, with quiet expected after 10pm. Shallow Grange opens from Easter to October, and you book through the farm's website.
