Snelling Farm Campsite

Snelling Farm Campsite is a back-to-basics, eco-friendly farm campsite beside the River Frome near Moreton, a few miles east of Dorchester in Dorset. Well off the beaten track, campers choose their own spot across mostly flat, oak-lined fields with no set pitch sizes and plenty of room. The site takes tents, trailer tents and small VW campers; it does not take large campervans or touring caravans, there is no electric hook-up and no chemical toilet disposal, so it will not suit anyone needing powered pitches or full facilities. Small campfires and barbecues are allowed off the ground in both fields, with firewood sold on site, which is a big part of the appeal. Facilities are simple: five warm electric showers, eco compost long-drop loos (bring your own loo roll), washing-up sinks and drinking water. A small farm shop sells the farm's own lamb and pork barbecue meats, local milk, eggs and cheese, Purbeck ice cream and marshmallows. Two fields separate quiet families and couples from livelier groups, and dogs are welcome. Dark skies over Snelling Farm bring good stargazing, with roe deer, hares and barn owls around at dusk. The Tank Museum, Monkey World, Clouds Hill, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are all close by in this corner of Dorset.
