Steeple Leaze Farm

Steeple Leaze Farm is a big, plain, turn up and pitch up campsite on a 1,500 acre working farm at Steeple on the Isle of Purbeck, about 4 miles south of Wareham. There is no booking system at all: you arrive, you find a spot, and the farm says it has plenty of room, including overflow camping. Caravans cannot be accommodated, though there are areas suitable for campervans, so this is tents first. Facilities are deliberately simple: toilets in the farmyard and out in the field, showers, washing up sinks around the site, drinking water from stand pipes in the yard, rubbish disposal and parking by your pitch. There is no electric hook up, which rules out anyone who needs mains power. Campfires and barbecues are allowed, which is rarer than it should be in Dorset. The farm runs 2,500 Highlander sheep and 350 Longhorn and Stabiliser cattle around you, and Kimmeridge Bay, Tyneham and Worbarrow Bay are all walkable from Steeple Leaze Farm, with Lulworth, Durdle Door, Corfe Castle, Studland Beach, Wareham and Swanage a short drive. Coastal walks depend on Army firing range times, so check before you set off. The 2026 season opened on 1 May, and camping costs from £8 a night for an adult, £4 for children aged 4 to 12 and £2 for a dog.
