Why campers love it here
About this site
Summerhill Farm Campsite is a working-farm site in the River Dart valley, close to the town of Ashburton on the edge of Dartmoor in South Devon. The large camping field has plenty of room for tents and tourers, with a limited number of electric hook-up points, a purpose-built toilet and shower block with disabled facilities, fresh water, waste disposal and a laundry. A shepherd's hut is on hand if you fancy trying glamping without hauling canvas. Because it is a livestock farm, dogs are welcome but must stay on a lead, and the setup suits families, walkers and Dartmoor explorers after a straightforward field rather than a facility-packed resort. The location earns its keep: Dartmoor's hiking, rivers and tors are on the doorstep, the River Dart Country Park sits right next door for family days out, and the A38 Devon Expressway gives quick access to the South Devon coast, beaches, zoos and theme parks. Ashburton itself, a handsome Dartmoor stannary town, is a short hop for shops and pubs. Summerhill Farm Campsite generally opens from April to September, so it is a warmer-months base rather than a year-round one. Pitches are booked directly with the farm by phone. It is a quiet, uncomplicated spot for anyone who rates location and space over on-site entertainment.
