About this site

Swanage Bijou Camping is a small, central tents-and-campervans site at Kirkwood Park Golf Centre in the seaside town of Swanage, Dorset. It sits on level, mown golf-course ground just a 7 minute walk across the park from Swanage beach, town centre, pier and the steam railway station, which is unusually close for the area and saves the hill climbs and parking charges most local sites involve. This is free-choice camping with no marked pitches, so you pick your spot and can group with friends, and cars are kept 40 metres from the tents for a quieter, safer field. It suits tent campers, small VW or Transit sized campervans and families, with a free adventure playground, skate park and playing fields backing onto the site. It does not suit caravans, large motorhomes or anyone needing electric hook-up, as there is none. Open fires and barbecues are allowed by your tent, which is rare this close to town, and hot showers, fridge, freezer and airbed pumps are free. Payment is cash on arrival with a BACS deposit. Swanage Bijou Camping opens in summer only, roughly late July to mid September, with pitches from £25 a night including two people and a car. Luxury bell tents are offered separately through the sister Swanage Bijou Glamping site.

Good to know

How much does it cost to camp at Swanage Bijou Camping?
Pitches start from £25 a night in low season for a small tent, including two people and one vehicle, rising to £30 in high season. Medium and large tents cost more, and dogs or children aged 4 to 15 are each charged a small extra nightly fee.
Are open fires and barbecues allowed?
Yes, open fires and barbecues are allowed beside your tent, which is unusual for a site so close to a town centre. This gives a proper campfire experience, and the site provides free hot showers, a fridge, a freezer and airbed pumps as part of the pitch fee.
Is there electric hook-up at Swanage Bijou Camping?
No, there is no electric hook-up on site, which helps keep it quiet with no televisions running next to your tent. It suits tent campers and small VW or Transit sized campervans, but not caravans or large motorhomes, which the site does not accept at all.
How far is the site from Swanage beach and town?
The site is central, roughly a 7 minute level walk across the park to Swanage beach, town centre, pier and the steam railway station. That avoids the hill climbs and paid parking that affect many of the other campsites around Swanage, so you can leave the car put.
When is Swanage Bijou Camping open?
The site opens for the summer only, roughly from late July to mid September, with exact dates confirmed each year on its website. Bookings need a BACS deposit in advance, and the balance is paid in cash on arrival, as the site does not take card payments.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes, dogs are welcome at Swanage Bijou Camping for a small additional nightly charge. With open playing fields, an adventure playground and the beach a short walk away, it is a practical base for a family holiday with a dog in tow around Swanage and the Purbeck coast.
