About this site

Tavistock Camping and Caravanning Club Site sits on the western edge of Dartmoor National Park at Moorshop, about two miles from the world heritage market town of Tavistock in Devon. It is a genuine gateway to the moor, with walking and cycling straight from the site, and it is one of the better spots in the country for stargazing thanks to Dartmoor's famously dark skies. The Club site accepts all unit types on a mix of grass pitches with or without electric hook-up, hardstandings with hook-up and super-service pitches with water and drainage, plus seasonal pitches. It is worth knowing that the grass-only pitches slope and are not suited to motorhomes, and that the surrounding lanes are narrow, so following a SatNav in is not advised. Facilities are modern, with laundry, washing-up, a shop, WiFi, family and accessible rooms and two enclosed dog walks, and there are holiday cottages next door to hire. This suits walkers, cyclists, nature lovers and stargazers who want an easy Dartmoor base, and it welcomes non-members, though members get the best price. National Cycle Route 274 joins just 200 yards away, and Lydford Gorge and the Princetown visitor centre are close. The site is open all year, with member pitches from £9.30 per person per night, booked through the Club.

Good to know

How close is Tavistock Club Site to Dartmoor?
The site sits right on the western edge of Dartmoor National Park at Moorshop, with walking and cycling straight from the gate. The world heritage town of Tavistock is about two miles away, and National Cycle Route 274 joins just 200 yards from the site.
Can I bring a motorhome to Tavistock Club Site?
Motorhomes are welcome, but note the grass-only pitches slope and are not suitable for motorhomes or campervans, so you would want a hardstanding or grass pitch with hook-up instead. The surrounding lanes are narrow, so the Club advises not following a SatNav on the approach.
How much does it cost to stay at Tavistock Club Site?
Member pitches start from around £9.30 per person per night. Non-members are welcome but pay a higher rate, so joining the Camping and Caravanning Club can be worth it for the best price. Pitches are booked online through the Club, with a low deposit at the time of booking.
Is Tavistock Club Site dog friendly?
Yes, pets are welcome and the site has two large enclosed dog walks on site. With walking and cycling straight from the site into Dartmoor, it is a good base for a trip with a dog. Keep dogs under control around the moor's livestock and wildlife.
When is Tavistock Club Site open?
The site is open all year, running from January through to December. It sits in a dark sky area, so on-site lighting is kept to a minimum at night, which is great for stargazing but means a torch is handy after dark. Book pitches online through the Club.
