Why campers love it here
About this site
The Otter Vale Wild Camping is a back-to-nature campsite spread across 70 acres of meadow, woodland and a small pond at Monkton Barton Farm, near Monkton and Honiton in East Devon. This is proper pitch-where-you-like camping: you choose your own spot, whether tucked into a corner or up on the top meadow to catch the sunset over Dumpdon Hill, and the working dairy farm behind it keeps things relaxed and low-key. It takes tents and is open all year, with toilets and showers on site but no electric hook-ups. Campfires and free fire pits have been part of the experience, though the owner has flagged that from summer 2026 the policy is under review to protect the farm's cattle, so check when you book. Wildlife is a big part of the appeal, with badgers, foxes, deer and squirrels sharing the valley and bluebells filling the wood in spring. The site sits in the Otter Valley within the Blackdown Hills, with Honiton and its antique shops around two miles away and Exeter and the Jurassic Coast within easy reach. The Otter Vale Wild Camping suits campers and families happy to trade hook-ups for space, quiet and dark skies. Contact the farm to book.
