Why campers love it here
About this site
The Plume of Feathers Inn is a historic Dartmoor pub with a simple campsite attached, in the centre of Princetown in South Devon. The camping is straightforward: up to 75 grass tent pitches and space for up to 10 motorhomes, none with electric hook up, plus a separate communal shower block, a pots and pans wash up area and a waste disposal point. Because of fire risk on the open moor, barbecues are not permitted. This is basic, back to nature moorland camping rather than a serviced park, so walkers, cyclists and Dartmoor explorers who want the pub on their doorstep will be happy, while anyone needing hook ups, hardstanding or family holiday facilities should look elsewhere. The main draw is obvious: pitch up, then walk a few steps to the refurbished bar and kitchen for food, coffee and live music on Saturdays. The inn also runs bunkhouse rooms for those who would rather not camp. Princetown sits high on Dartmoor, a strong base for hiking to the tors and open moorland, and dogs are welcome. Camping costs from £15 per pitch including one adult, with extra adults and children charged on top. To book the campsite, call or email the Plume of Feathers direct.
